Cloud-Native Platform

A cloud-native operations platform for a transport engineering firm

NorthEast Engineering

A South Australia–based transport engineering firm specialising in custom truck bodies, hydraulics, and Ferrari truck cranes — serving Federal and State Governments, local councils, and mining fleets since 1999.

Challenge

Workshop operations, quote management, job tracking, and customer fitment records were spread across spreadsheets, email threads, and paper job cards.

Growing fleet-customer contracts and compliance obligations — mine-spec body certifications, hydraulic safety records, and ADR compliance documentation — demanded a single cloud platform with auditable workflows, role-based access for tradespeople and supervisors, and real-time visibility for fleet customers.

Our approach

We delivered the platform end-to-end on Microsoft Azure:

  • Discovery and process mapping with workshop supervisors to understand how jobs actually move through the shop floor.
  • Solution architecture developed alongside fleet customers, so the system reflected real contractual and reporting needs.
  • Full-stack build using Angular for an operator-friendly UI optimised for tablet use on the shop floor, and .NET for the job, quote, BOM, and compliance services.
  • Terraform-managed infrastructure across AKS, Azure SQL, Blob Storage, and Application Gateway.
  • CI/CD via Azure DevOps with environment promotion gates for repeatable, audited deployments.
  • Structured post-launch hypercare, followed by a managed support retainer.

Data residency was kept within Azure Australia East to meet local compliance expectations.

Outcome

The platform was delivered to production on schedule. It sustained 99.9% uptime over its first three months, cut quote turnaround time by roughly 40%, and gave compliance officers a single audit trail for body-build certifications.
